Nwabali, who currently plies his trade for the Eastern Cape-based side, was a surprise inclusion as first choice for Nigeria at Afcon. This was due to the fact that he had only one cap for the Super Eagles prior to the showpiece. He would end up playing all seven games for Nigeria in Ivory Coast, keeping four clean sheets. He also played a huge role in the team finishing as runners-up at the tournament. That also saw his name and reputation skyrocket. Now there are more European clubs reportedly on his radar, making things difficult for Chiefs.

Chiefs and Pirates linked with Nwabali

Beyond European interest, Chiefs arch-rivals Pirates were also believed to have entered the race. In fact, this publication had reported they were willing to swap Ghana’s number one Richard Ofori for Nwabali. That deal is also thought to involve a cash exchange. Whatever the Buccaneers end up doing in their pursuit, doesn’t seem like Amakhosi will be willing to match.

Now beyond Pirates and Chiefs, it is believed that AmaZulu are ready to launch an ambitious bid for Nwabali.

AmaZulu to launch ambitious

“According to Siya sources, AmaZulu have joined the race for much sought-after Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. Siya sources have now indicated that AmaZulu have added the player to their wishlist. This as a possible replacement for captain Veli Mothwa, who coincidentally joined Usuthu from the Chilli Boys in 2020. Nwabali, however, will not come cheap as Chippa will require a hefty transfer fee to allow him to leave – be it to another Premier Soccer League club or abroad. Chippa have sold a goalie to AmaZulu before, but this deal would require some serious discussions behind the scenes to make sure it goes over the line with many others chasing Nwabali’s signature.” Wrote Soccer-Laduma

It remains to be seen if AmaZulu can afford Nwabali or if Pirates or even Chiefs come in for the player.
