Since the turn of the year, Chiefs have failed to get on the score sheet in league matches against Royal AM and Swallows, as well as in their Nedbank Cup defeat to lower league Milford. ‘Boring boring Arsenal’ was a phrase aimed at the English Premier League giants as they ground out numerous 1-0 wins in the 80s and early 90s. Chiefs would love to be doing the same but they can’t get on the score sheet at the moment.
GOALS CONTINUE TO BE THE PROBLEM
In 17 league matches this term, Chiefs have scored 16 goals. You don’t need a maths degree to deduce that a side scoring less than a goal per game has serious issues. This is not a new problem though. In 2022-23, the Glamour Boys notched up just 32 league goals in 30 matches. It’s a miserly average for a team of this stature. What’s next? A midweek encounter with Golden Arrows and then a massive Soweto Derby with Orlando Pirates next weekend.
