The next Kaizer Chiefs coach is coming sooner than later. One of the candidates has an extraordinary resume.
NEXT KAIZER CHIEFS COACH CANDIDATES
So what’s the situation? The Soweto giants have fallen. Amakhosi have not won a trophy in over nine years. The chopping and changing of coaches has been the order of the day.
Molefi Ntseki started as the Chiefs coach in June 2023. He left his post in October 2023 before the club appointed Cavin Johnson in an interim capacity.
“Having been appointed Head of Academy at Naturena barely a month ago, Cavin Johnson has been parachuted into the hot seat after taking charge of the first team squad on an interim basis following the departure of Molefi Ntseki on Monday,” the club announced on 25 October 2023.
According to recent reports, Amakhosi’s bosses have drawn a list of six candidates. The list includes three South Africans, as well as one Tunisian, one Brazilian and a Portuguese:
- Pitso Mosimane
- Benni McCarthy
- Manqoba Mngqithi
- Jose Peseiro – Portugal
- Nasreddine Nabi – Tunisia
- Alexandre Gallo – Brazil.
So, which of the candidates has the best profile in terms of winning accolades? The answer is the great son of the soil: Mosimane.
PITSO MOSIMANE TROPHIES
In the hopes and prayers for the next Chiefs coach, millions of Amakhosi supporters have demanded a coach with proven winning success. A lot has been said about Mosimane as a winner, but just how much is he a sheer champion?
The Kagiso-born coach holds the record as the only DStv Premiership coach with five league titles. Legends like Gavin Hunt, Gordon Igesund and Ted Dumitru have four each.
Additionally, Mosimane is the only coach in CAF Champions League history with three titles.

Meanwhile, Mosimane is working in Saudi Arabia. The former Sundowns tactician joined Abha Club in February. He signed a four-month deal with the mission to save the club from relegation.
