INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have a potentially transformative summer on the horizon.
Not only are the majority of the players underperforming but the one person who looked like the beacon of stability after the end of last season, Erik ten Hag, has seen his stock plummet.
Consequently, new managers have been linked to Old Trafford even as noises coming from INEOS’ camp make it seem like Ten Hag is safe for now.
Still, if they make a change eventually, as has been looking more and more likely with every United display, a name that figures to be at the top of that list is that of Graham Potter.
It is just as well because Sky Sports report that Potter has rejected the chance to manage Ajax after a recent approach.

Potter is an INEOS favourite and was a contender to become manager at OGC Nice, another club under their umbrella.
His name has been incessantly linked to the post at Old Trafford for the same reason and his turning down Ajax could be a sign he’s waiting for something bigger to come around.
Potter has been out of management since being sacked by Chelsea last year but the Blues’ performances since make it clear that the manager is the least of their worries.
A similar situation, however, can be assessed at United which is why Ten Hag has been given time to get things right despite underwhelming performances.
Ironically, Ajax are also a club where the stability at the boardroom level has gone down the drain as they’ve become another fallen giant in the Netherlands this season.
Hardly an enticing choice of clubs for Potter to pick from but the potential with INEOS at the helm and the chance to restore a fallen giant the size of United is undoubtedly more attractive than managing Ajax in their current state.
It seems like he thinks the same which is why he’s willing to wait a little longer to see if there’s a vacancy under Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
