Scott McTominay set for multiple weeks on the sidelines after hyperextending his knee vs Chelsea – Man United News And Transfer News

The injury cloud at Manchester United has been like the Manchester clouds this season, just refusing to go away and keeps raining injuries.

Just as the injury situation at the club looked to be improving for the end-of-season run-in, Ten Hag first lost his defenders.

Now, midfielders are falling, with generally reliable Scott McTominay following Casemiro’s footsteps earlier in the season.

The Daily Mail reports that McTominay will be sidelined for up to two-three weeks after hyperextending his knee vs Chelsea.

The Scot was a curious absentee when the teamsheet vs Liverpool dropped as he has generally established himself as a player for the big games at United.

Now, clarity has arrived over his situation and it spells bad news for United.

He is a certainty to miss their travel to the south coast to take on Bournemouth and is also a doubt for United’s FA Cup semifinal clash vs Coventry at Wembley.

Considering that the FA Cup is United’s only chance at a trophy this season, Ten Hag will miss his most clutch player this season.

Casemiro’s form has fallen off a cliff and Kobbie Mainoo has been overextended and looks knackered at times in his debut senior season.

Sofyan Amrabat has failed to convince and Christian Eriksen has fallen out of favour, while Mason Mount is still struggling to find a consistent position at United.

Therefore, Scott McTominay was one constant in a sea of uncertainties, even though his own role came under scrutiny as he doesn’t offer much in possession.

Still, his goalscoring skill and causing havoc in the box have been routinely relied upon by Ten Hag to break down deep defences, a skill missing from this current United setup.

Ten Hag would hope his return is smooth and he can help United in the end of season run in and there’s a FA Cup final for him to return to.
