Manchester United make more unwanted history in Bournemouth draw – Man United News And Transfer News

Erik ten Hag and Manchester United have managed to break another unwanted record in their lacklustre season.

The Old Trafford outfit are on course for one of, if not their worst ever Premier League seasons, as they sit seventh with six games left to play.

With a goal difference of minus one, 47 goals scored and 12 losses, the table does not lie.

The Red Devils need nine more points from the remaining 18 available to ensure that they do not finish on their lowest ever Premier League points total.

Ten Hag’s men recently broke the unwanted record for losing a match after leading so late on in a contest.

Against Chelsea they were leading after 99 minutes, yet still managed to find a way to lose the contest, as Cole Palmer fired in two late efforts.

Saturday evening’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth was largely symbolic of the club’s season to date.

An open defence that was exceedingly vulnerable to counter attacks was excused only by scoring goals out of nowhere to rescue an undeserved draw.

The Red Devils’ backline allowed 20 shots on its goal and this led to the breaking of a new record that Ten Hag will not be likely to add to his C.V. anytime soon.

Sky Sports revealed (via Footballtransfers) that “United have now conceded a barely believable 565 shots in the Premier League this season”.

“Those 565 shots have come in 32 games, which is an average of 18 shots conceded per match”.

“This is the highest number of shots that United have conceded in a season since 2003-04, and there are still six games to go to make this an even more historic negative record”.

The season of spring has been even worse for the Red Devils, as their defensive struggles have been even more apparent over the last two months.

“In the last 10 games, Man Utd have conceded 241 shots. An average of over 24 shots a match”.

Scarily for United fans, neither manager Erik ten Hag or goalkeeper, Andre Onana, seem to be that worried by the sheer scale of the statistics.

With matches against Arsenal, Newcastle and Brighton still to play in the league, there is a strong chance that many more shots will be added to the overall embarrassing total for a side of United’s stature.
